I'm Justin Donais, a lifelong visual artist driven by a profound passion for lighting, and storytelling.

Through a seamless blend of stills and video, my creative journey is dedicated to sharing compelling narratives and captivating imagery that resonate deeply with audiences.
I firmly believe that the essence of a successful project lies in a holistic understanding
of the entire production process – from initial planning to the final edit.

In 2009, my debut documentary feature Film, "Glastonburykids," earned the honor of
being an official selection at the prestigious True/False Film Festival
before gaining wide spread Digital distribution.

With decades of hands-on experience both on set and
in post, I eagerly anticipate collaborating with you
to breathe life into your next creative vision.

Cinematography

With my on-set DP experience, I'm able to collaborate about the best way to capture each scene to get your desired look and feel. Beyond my passion for lighting, I deeply enjoy working together with our crew to ensure that everything is in place and the end result is a beautiful product that everyone is proud of.

Color Correction

Color can subtextually tell so much of the story, while also elevating production value. It's all about getting the right look and feel for your project. This part of the process I deeply enjoy and is key to any project.

Dailies

One of my first crew calls is to my Local 600 DIT whom I’ve worked with for years at the top level. Delivering transcodes that can shine like a final color is what we pride our selves in. Additionally, mastering a look for each director and keeping that exclusive to them is one of the many joys of being a cinematographer.

Communication

We all know that communication in all regards is key, but on set it comes down to time and money. Working together with the AD to develop a solid schedule that fits within production’s parameters sets us all off on the right foot. Tech scouts are as important as shoot days with their ability to maximize value for our clients when the camera is up.

Lighting

In my years working through the ranks, my true love has always been lighting. The DP role always gets a lot of camera focus, but directing the lighting is my deep passion. When directing lighting for still photographers, I enjoy the same collaboration as with directors and gaffers.

Steadicam

Nothing beats the flexibility and the fluidity of a flying a Steadicam. With my personal kit, I’m able to seamlessly work with directors who want to move on the fly. Capturing real moments is key but ensuring that’s useable footage is paramount. The seamlessness of a Steadicam allows me to deliver an even higher volume of top quality content to creatives and clients.

Arm Car

My experience shooting automotive has led to many days camera operating out of the arm car. My communication with each crew member develops fast to achieve a high volume of stunning footage. On many days, there is no better way to move a camera.

Drones

Working in sync with licensed pilots flying a drone is such a thrill. My experience camera operating the Inspire series of drones helps production save an extra camera operator for the day. It still ensures stunning images with all the wow factor you’d expect from the speciality camera movement.
